Craig Chandler has a small cult-like following of characters who do his bidding.
This page will be filling out soon. Each of these Chandlerites have a crazy history of their own and it will take some time to document it. Whenever you see one of the folks below involved with anything, rest assured the cherubic hand of Chandler is guiding things.
Don Leonardo
Don Leonardo is essentially joined at the hip with Craig Chandler. While Leonardo is on the executive of every group that Chandler spawns such as the failed
Calgary Merchant Association, Chandler has not had Leonardo run for any elected positions. This likely is due to Leonardo's less than sparkling personality. Leonardo has posted on web-forums and blogs where he demonstrates a rather striking knack for the simplistic alienation of readers through accusations of socialism and such. Leonardo coordinated doorknocking in one of Jon Lord's failed past campaigns and is still active in pretty much whatever Craig Chandler tells him to be active in.
Harley Shouldice
Harley Shouldice is a longtime Chanderite. He managed Craig Chandler's disasterous Calgary Egmont Progressive Conservative nomination race. Harley's name pops up in all of Craig Chandler's groups from as a director with the
PGIB to the
Canadian Leadership institute. Shouldice had been reported to be running in the 2010 Calgary Civic election for Ward 7 but now is managing Tommy Low's campaign in Ward 4. I guess Chandler decided that Harley would not be able to take on Druh Farrell so he told Shouldice to stick to campaign managing. I am sure that we can look forward to all the class and good tactics in the Ward 4 campaign that we have come to expect from Chandler influenced campaigns.
Harley Shouldice is also the president of the Wildrose Alliance Party constituency association of Calgary North Hill.
Steve Chapman (may not appear exactly as pictured)
Steve Chapman is indeed one of the more colorful and extroverted of the Chandlerites. Chapman specializes in failed civic campaigns in Calgary though he did indeed come discomfortingly close to winning one of the races.
Chapman is past president of Chandler's PGIB and has been recently been replaced by Mark Dyrholm who having been slaughtered in a Chandler managed campaign for the leadership of the Wildrose Alliance Party can now show a more open connection to Craig Chandler.
Chapman was going to run in Ward 8 and then Ward 7 but now will apparently be running in Ward 9 in the upcoming Calgary civic election.
Steve Chapman has responded with the reason that he decided to run in ward 9. His response was:
"And for the record I was never running in Ward 8. The media simply assumed I was. While ward 9 was my first choice I started to run in Ward 7 because Druh Farrell is a terrible alderman and has had zero competition in 9 years. However I withdrew in favour of Kevin Taylor so the vote would not be split in Farrell’s favour."
According to the Calgary Herald, Ron Dahl (current chairman of Chandler's PGIB) is managing Chapman's campaign.
David Crutcher
David Crutcher has had a long and prominent history as a Chandlerite. Crutcher was Craig Chandler's proxy candidate in the 2004 general election in Calgary Egmont under the Alberta Alliance Party banner.
Crutcher then ran for the leadership of the Alberta Alliance Party in 2005.
The leadership race for the Alberta Alliance quickly went into the gutter with Chandler/Crutcher's involvement with the usual allegations made and lawsuits threatened as documented at wikipedia. Thankfully, Chandler's campaign management led to Crutcher finishing a distant third in the leadership race behind Paul Hinman and Marilyn Burns.
Crutcher was entrenched in the Progressive Conservative board in Calgary Egmont and his actions/resignation etc were all part of the now infamous Calgary Egmont nomination debacle that Chandler participated in.
Crutcher then led the PGIB offshoot; "Western Business and Taxpayers Association" which demanded Alberta's separation from Canada. The group failed within a year.
Crutcher is still omnipresent at any Chandler function as can be shown where he is lurking behind
Peter Demong in the picture in Demong's profile as a Chandler candidate.
Rob Allen
Rob has become prolific on the Chandler scene in these last few years. He (as with Chandler) appears and begins spamming comment sections of blogs and articles whenever Chandler or the PGIB are mentioned. Allen was a director of policy with the failed separatist "Western Business and Taxpayers Association" though that short-lived organization only seemed to have one policy.
Big City Lib did some other digging on Allen.
Mark Dyrholm
Mark Dyrholm is the current National President of the PGIB. Dyrholm was most recently noteworthy as being Chandler's candidate in 2009 Wildrose Alliance Party leadership race. The Dyrholm/Chandler set the race off on a poor tone and the comment spamming by Chandlerites on websites was pretty rough.
In the dying days of the campaign when it was becoming clear that Dyrholm was a very distant second to Danielle Smith, Chandler and Dyrholm tried a bizzare stunt and exposed members of the media and their spouses who had purchased Wildrose Alliance party memberships. So much for membership confidentiallity I guess.
The weird release with spots from both Chandler and Dyrholm is linked here.
The desperate strategy was a dismal failure and Dyrholm failed to capture even a quarter of the votes for the leadership.
Note how the logo on the twitter account is exactly the same as that of Demong's (aside from the name of course). One would think that a person would at least change the logo for a new candidate after the last one suffered such a loss.
Jim Blake
Jim Blake is the Chandlerite who took over the management of Concerned Christians Canada. CCC is a splinter-group that Chandler created for himself.
After having been slapped by a human rights complaint due to Craig having said some hateful things about gay people, Chandler had to write a letter of apology and he left the leadership of CCC to Jim Blake.
CCC was tied up in the Lund/Boisson affair involving hatred towards gays as well.
Blake has spearheaded such briliiant initiatives as protesting a sculpture at the Calgary zoo as he thinks elephants are offensive to his Christian nature.
Blake is currently working on Peter Demong's campaign in Calgary for Ward 14.
